Find info about Virginia Union transfer process, registering in a technical degree program to develop job skills, and taking free practice tests online. Which college degrees will give you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? Some students select a major because it offers practical training that will be valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major simply because they enjoy the subject material. Concentration in a technical field demands a lot of study, but the rewards are equally impressive. Job satisfaction, higher salary, and employment security are the main incentives. The most popular college major is business administration, split evenly between men and women. On the other hand, men make up the vast majority of computer science and engineering majors. For women, the fields of education, English and liberal arts dominate the list.

To prepare for graduate school, students can enhance their regular schedule by adding online classes. Distance education enables students who otherwise wouldn't be able to make the commute to campus to access accredited courses. If you so choose, online education gives you the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript. Alternatively, you may be able to complete online credits for a grade. Advanced Placement exams (AP Exams) are offered in a variety of subjects, offering college credit for classes that you have taken. Test yourself with free practice exams, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be granted advanced placement in college.

Online Courses - MOOCs

Virginia Union transfer processThe best college for a student is not necessarily the highest ranking school in the Forbes or US News listings, but the college that offers a student rewarding career chances. If you remain true to your career interests, not just going after salary, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. However, if your focus is more on salary alone, there's a higher risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers later on.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year college, and still you may earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. By taking some of your required degree courses online, you may be able to graduate earlier, thus saving money on tuition. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your spare time to advance your career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing cloud-based software, interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree that was earned on campus. Udemy online learning is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Similarly, Khan Academy now offers over 4,000 micro-lectures served through YouTube. Coursera, a competing software platform, has millions of enrolled students from around the world. Recently, MIT announced that it's open courseware platform will be available to students and instructors at no cost.

College Admissions

Admissions officers analyze how a given applicant thinks, what kind of person they are, and their level of intellectual promise. Recent developments in college admissions include higher numbers of applicants, more foreign students, and the increased use of mobile app forms. About half of colleges use a waiting list, particularly those which are more selective, and it's important to remember that almost 30% of wait-listed students are eventually accepted. On average, over half of juniors retaking the SAT as a senior saw improvements in their scores, so test yourself with practice exams online.

Financial Aid

Peterson's Scholarship Search Award Database is drawn from Peterson's college guidebooks. When Federal student loans enter repayment, they are automatically enrolled in standard repayment. Under it, a borrower has 10 years to repay the total amount of his or her student loan debt. Please note that financial aid application deadlines are strictly enforced by the financial aid office. The official FAFSA website is and is free. Student loans often carry an origination fee. Origination fees are a one-time charge based on the amount of the loan.

Federal Direct Student Loans are funded by Treasury bonds. Private student loans, however, are not guaranteed, and are offered directly to students by a commercial bank, employee credit union, or finance company. Student loans saddle graduating students with substantial debt, and can't be dismissed easily. Student credit cards may seem like a good short-term solution, but the interest rates are prohibitively high, and credit cards often carry an annual fee. If you do end up using credit cards to meet some expenses, pay off the outstanding balance in full every month, or else you may be subject to sudden interest rate changes.

Nursing & Medical Job Listings

Earning a CNA degree (Certified Nursing Assistant) is the first step towards becoming a fully-qualified nurse. Most CNA programs can be completed within a few months, allowing you to join the workforce quickly. The next step in a nursing career is to become a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or LVN ( Licensed Vocational Nurse). These are year-long programs, in which you'll work under an RN distributing meds, treating wounds, and providing basic patient care.

Physical Therapists$58,050$94,810
Registered Nurses (RN)$49,730$83,440
Respiratory Therapists$68,610$94,190

In order to become an RN (Registered Nurse), a bachelors degree in nursing is recommended. RN's command a greater salary, and are responsible for an enlarged scope of practice over LPNs and CNAs. Students will receive classroom instruction and clinical training in a hospital setting. A 4-year BSN program allows students to further specialize in the areas of pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health. After completing your nursing education, you must be licensed by the state in which you'll be practicing, given that state boards of nursing each have specific certification requirements.
